The European Union (EU) will strengthen control at the Schengen borders amid the latest terrorist attacks. This was announced on Thursday, November 5, by French President Emmanuel Macron. His words are quoted by Reuters.
Speaking during his visit to the border with Spain, the president of the republic said that increased control would target illegal immigration against the backdrop of a “growing terrorist threat.”
Macron also noted that France will strengthen border controls, doubling the number of police officers to 4,800.
The attacks in Europe began after the 18-year-old Chechen Abdulakh Anzorov killed and beheaded history teacher Samuel Pati on October 16 in Conflans-Saint-Honorine near Paris. Before that, the teacher showed schoolchildren caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad during a lesson on freedom of speech.
