EU will fight against Hungarian law against LGBT people

by alex

The EU authorities intend to fight against the new Hungarian law, which prohibits LGBT propaganda. This was stated by the head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, her words are reported by Politico.

She called the bill shameful and promised to use all the powers of the Commission to protect the rights of European citizens. “I strongly believe in the European Union, where you can love whoever you want, and I believe in a European Union that supports diversity,” von der Leyen said.

The head of the European Commission noted that the bill discriminates against people on the basis of their sexual orientation and violates the basic principles of European unification. “These are human dignity, equality and fundamental human rights. We will not compromise on these principles, ”she concluded.

Earlier it became known that Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban canceled a trip to Munich after the city authorities asked UEFA for permission to design a rainbow lighting at a football stadium. Thus, Germany wanted to express disagreement with Budapest's position on LGBT propaganda.

In mid-June, the Hungarian parliament approved a law that would ban LGBT propaganda in schools and educational programs for children. The ban on gay propaganda will also affect organizations: Hungary will limit the list of those who are allowed to conduct sex education lessons.
