On the sidelines, representatives of the European Union countries support Russia's proposals on security on the continent, but in the negotiations they continue to strictly adhere to the old position. This was stated by Konstantin Gavrilov, head of the Russian delegation at the talks on military security and arms control in Vienna, his words were aired on the YouTube channel Soloviev Live.
He called this dissonance schizophrenia. “Yes, they can hear us perfectly … But in public they strictly adhere to their Euro-Atlantic position. Whatever happens, whatever facts are given to them. And “under the table” some delegations just quietly applaud, “Gavrilov explained.
On December 20, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov and Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said that Moscow had not yet received a response from Washington to proposals on security guarantees in Europe. They were published on December 17th. According to the document, the alliance is proposed to abandon the expansion to the East and the inclusion of Ukraine in the organization, as well as the conduct of any military activity on the territory of Ukraine and other states of Eastern Europe, Transcaucasia and Central Asia.
