Head of EU diplomacy Josep Borrell said that the recent events in Transnistria are detrimental to the security and stability of Moldova.

The EU High Representative urged the responsible parties to avoid destabilizing the situation.

This is stated in Borrell's statement on April 29.

Borrell stressed that the European Union “strongly welcomes the restrained reaction of the Moldovan authorities”, which ensures peace in the country.

“The EU stands in solidarity with Moldova and reaffirms its steadfast support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova within its internationally recognized borders and with a special status for the Transnistrian region,” Borrell stressed.

According to him, the EU provides comprehensive assistance in solving problems immediate problems associated with the influx of refugees. The Union also stepped up its medium-term support to support Moldova.

Recall that on April 26, Arestovich said that due to Russian provocations in the unrecognized Transnistria, Moldova could be in big trouble. Therefore, the state should turn to Romania and Ukraine for help. And Ukraine, according to the adviser to the head of the Presidential Office, will “manage” to take Tiraspol under control. In turn, the Moldovan authorities stated that they intended to resolve the problem of Transnistria only by political and peaceful means. In addition, the President of Moldova Maya Sandu said that the country does not have a combat-ready army.
