The European Union (EU) has become interested in Russian weapons in Donbass: earlier the OSCE mission discovered there a 51U6 Kasta-2E1 radar station, which is also used in the RF Armed Forces. Ukrinform writes about this with reference to the EU statement.
It is noted that the EU took into account with concern the fact that such weapons were found in the Donbas. The union called on Russia “to influence the armed formations under its control.”
“The number of targeted attacks is growing (…), which leads to new casualties among Ukrainian military personnel,” the statement concluded. The EU called on Moscow and Kiev to do everything possible to maintain the ceasefire.
The territorial conflict in Donbass has been going on for over six years. In April 2014, the Ukrainian authorities launched a military operation against the DPR and LPR, which proclaimed independence from Kiev after the change of power in the country. In 2015, the Minsk agreements were signed, which imply the granting of a special status to the region and the holding of local elections.
In July 2020, an indefinite ceasefire was announced in Donbass, agreed within the framework of the Trilateral Contact Group (TCG) by representatives of Moscow, Kiev and the OSCE. Its violation is periodically stated by all parties to the conflict.
