The EU imposed sanctions against two security officials from Chechnya: the republic's deputy prime minister, the commander of the Terek unit Abuzaid Vismuradov, and the ex-chief of police in the city of Argun Ayub Kataev. RIA Novosti writes about it.
In total, the EU imposes sanctions against 11 individuals and four organizations. They are accused of violating human rights in the world, including the “persecution of Chechen LGBT representatives.”
Earlier, the EU Council of Foreign Ministers also approved sanctions against 11 people, including citizens of Russia, China and Libya, for human rights violations. The names of the Russians who will be affected by the new restrictions have not been named.
On March 15, Novaya Gazeta published the second part of its investigation into the executions in Chechnya. In it, a former employee of the Akhmat Kadyrov patrol and guard service regiment, senior police sergeant Suleiman Gezmakhmaev, spoke about the circumstances of the alleged murder of at least 13 people from the “list of 27”. The Kremlin, commenting on the publications, stated that media articles about mass extrajudicial killings in Chechnya could not be considered as evidence.
