EU finds way to bypass Hungary's veto on €6 billion aid to Ukraine

by alex

EU ambassadors are due to meet on October 8 to discuss the details of the plan.

The EU is moving towards overriding Hungary's veto on funding for Ukraine. The sum at issue is more than 6 billion euros. The European Union has already found one way.

Bloomberg reports this, citing its own sources.

According to sources, the European External Action Service is considering allowing EU member states to make voluntary contributions to the European Peace Fund, which in the future would allow funds to be directed to aid only by decision of individual countries, without the unanimous support of all EU countries.

However, it is not yet clear what kind of support it will receive, since many key decisions of the bloc require unanimity.

Recall that the other day, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban once again threatened the EU over refugee issues and migration dispute.
