EU embargo on Russian oil: a few days left — German Vice-Chancellor

To impose a ban on the import of Russian oil to the EU is quite realistic, despite the resistance of several countries, including including Hungary.

At the World Economic Forum in Davos, German Vice-Chancellor and Economy Minister Robert Habeck said that EU member states depend on Russian energy sources in different ways, but an oil embargo is achievable in the coming days.

The statement of the politician representing the Green Party is quoted by the German edition of the ZDF.

According to him, the planned events fail only because of the resistance of several states, primarily Hungary. Despite this, a ban on oil imports is quite achievable in the coming days.

“I think we will achieve a breakthrough within a few days,” Khabek said.

However, according to him, an oil embargo does not automatically mean that Putin will be weakened. He gave an example of the consequences of the American oil embargo, when oil prices rose around the world. Although Putin “sold less oil over the past few weeks, but received more revenue.” This, of course, should be avoided, Habek emphasizes.

The German Vice Chancellor proposes an international agreement on oil prices – the creation of a kind of cartel of buyers, opposed to the Russian oil supply cartel.

Recall, Germany is ready to withdraw from Hungary's participation in the embargo in order to speed up the ban on oil imports from Russia.
