EU countries want to jointly purchase gas to get rid of dependence on the Russian Federation

The goal of the EU is to reduce dependence on Russian gas.

At the end of this week, EU countries are planning to make a joint decision to buy natural gas, including liquefied natural gas (LNG) and hydrogen to fill gas underground storage facilities. The European Union plans to get rid of dependence on Russian gas.

DW writes about this.

“On the eve of next winter, Member States and the European Commission will immediately begin work on joint purchases of gas, LNG and hydrogen” , — says the draft declaration of the summit, which is at the disposal of the agency.

On March 23, the European Commission is expected to propose specific requirements for filling gas storage facilities in the EU: they must be filled by 90 percent every year until November.

Now Europe's underground gas storage facilities are only 26 percent full on average.

Recall that the head of the European Parliament stressed that the EU must achieve zero dependence on Russia.
