Today, 9 September, the Council of the EU adopted a decision that completely suspends the Visa Facilitation Agreement between the EU and Russia.

Now the general rules of the Visa Code will apply to Russian citizens. The decision will take effect on September 12, 2022.

This is reported by the press service of the EU Council.

“This will increase the visa fee from 35 to 80 euros, the need to provide additional documentary evidence , an increase in visa processing times and stricter rules for issuing multiple-entry visas,” the report says.

In addition, the commission adopted a proposal on non-recognition of Russian passports issued in the occupied regions of Ukraine.

Recall, August 31, the EU terminated the agreement with Russia, facilitating the issuance of Schengen visas to Russians. However, there was no talk of a complete ban on the issuance of documents, since there was no unanimous agreement among countries on this issue.
