Freeland left the current cabinet in December due to disagreements with the prime minister.

Former Finance Minister and Deputy Prime Minister of Canada Chrystia Freeland may announce her intention to run for the post of leader Liberal Party. If she takes this position, she will automatically replace Justin Trudeau as prime minister.

This is reported by CBC News.

The publication reports that Freeland will announce her intentions even before the inauguration of the new US President Donald Trump in Washington.

Freeland herself left the cabinet in December due to disagreements with the prime minister. Following her resignation, calls for Trudeau to step down grew.

She later explained that she was forced to resign because Justin Trudeau offered her a minister without portfolio with limited responsibility for U.S.-Canada relations.

She also criticized Trudeau for his economic policies, saying he was resorting to “expensive political tricks,” and demanded that he work more closely with provincial premiers to counter Trump's proposed tariffs on Canadian goods.

Recall that it was previously reported that Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is stepping down resignation.

In addition, we previously reported that Canadian leaders responded to Trump's statements regarding the country's accession to the United States.
