A source in the Turkish security forces told Reuters that Turkish-backed Syrian rebels entered the city of Manbij in northern Syria, capturing a large part of the territory that was under the control of US-backed Kurdish forces.
“The fight against the YPG (People's Defense Units – ed.)/PKK (Kurdistan Workers' Party – ed.) is close to completion. Air and ground operations are underway to wrest control of Manbij from the YPG/PKK,” the source said, referring to the Kurdish militia that has held the city for a long time.
According to the source, Turkish-backed forces now control 80% of the Manbij region, which covers several hundred square kilometers, and have already entered the city.
Recall that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered Israeli forces to seize areas of Syria in the Golan Heights buffer zone.
