Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan spoke with the captain of the Mozart ship hijacked by pirates in the Gulf of Guinea, Furkan Yaren. This was reported in the administration of the Turkish leader, RIA Novosti reports.
It is noted that Erdogan spoke with Yaren on the phone twice. In particular, the captain said that the ship with three crew members who survived the attack is moving to Gabon. The President said that he was closely monitoring the situation and ordered to take measures to rescue the abducted crew of the ship.
The cargo ship Mozart was sailing under the flag of Liberia, according to Dryad Global. The pirates attacked him 98 nautical miles (181 kilometers) from the city of Sao Tome – the capital of Sao Tome and Principe.
Earlier it became known that when the pirates seized the ship, a native of Azerbaijan, a mechanic Farman Ismailov, died. The pirates also took 15 crew members hostage. There are wounded among them. All remaining sailors are Turkish citizens.
