Recep Tayyip Erdogan
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan congratulated Azerbaijan on the capture of the city of Shusha – a key one in Nagorno-Karabakh. This was announced on Sunday, November 8, by the Anadolu agency.
“The liberation of Shushi is a symbol of the soonest liberation of the remaining occupied lands of Azerbaijan. The joy of the brothers in Azerbaijan, who step by step liberate the cities and villages occupied by the Armenian Armed Forces, is also the joy of Turkey! ”Erdogan said.
The Turkish leader also noted that for 30 years Azerbaijan was deceived in the negotiations on Karabakh, which were held under the auspices of the OSCE. “Our brothers remained patient and, finally, began to solve the issue on their own, achieving the desired victory,” the politician rejoiced.
The fact that Shusha is now under the control of Azerbaijani troops was announced by the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev. At the same time, the Armenian Ministry of Defense refutes these words and claims that “hard and decisive” battles in the city continue.
The capture of Shushi opens up opportunities for Azerbaijan for direct shelling of the NKR capital Stepanakert and seizure of the highway connecting Karabakh and Armenia. The fact that the front line approached almost close to the settlement became known on October 29. The city has already come under fire several times since the outbreak of hostilities on 27 September.
A sharp intensification of hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh has been observed since October 26 after the breakdown of the next, third truce, established at a meeting of representatives of Baku and Yerevan in Washington. The parties regularly accuse each other of shelling civilians.
