Turkey has its own, very clear task – to become a regional player with global ambitions and projects.
Kyiv cannot influence Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan to convince the Iranian authorities not to supply drones to Russia.
About this in an interview with TSN.ua, Yevgeniya Gaber, a senior analyst at the Center for Modern Turkey Studies, said.
“Can Ukraine influence Iran through Turkey? It's difficult. It's difficult, because Turkey itself has difficult relations with Iran. Because this whole Russia-Turkey-Iran format, it was formed with completely different goals and objectives. And it's difficult, because that Turkey is supplying Bayraktars to Ukraine, therefore, accordingly, blaming Iran for supplying drones to Russia – this allegedly raises the question that Turkey refuses to supply Bayraktars to Russia. And the last but important point is that there is allegedly no official evidence yet Iranian drones, Iran officially declares that they do not supply Russia with kamikaze drones, and for Turkish diplomacy this is a unique opportunity to say: “Sorry, there are no proven facts, so there is nothing to talk about yet,” she said.
Gaber also stressed that the fact that Turkey is a NATO member cannot be ruled out, so that Turkey has the same goals as Russia and Iran is out of the question.
“Turkey has its own, very even what task is to become a regional player with global ambitions and projects, and for this it needs to be present everywhere,” the analyst concluded.
