The difficult period in the Turkish economy in the form of a record collapse of the lira exchange rate is over. This was stated by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan at an expanded meeting of the heads of regional offices of the ruling AKP (Justice and Development Party) party, Anadolu Ajansi reports.
“In this process, we are faced with a critical crossroads that will shape our future. Our republic is being tested again, ”the president told the party members. “We are determined to relieve the Turkish people of the burden of volatility in the foreign exchange market and artificially inflating prices,” Erdogan added.
He also noted that the time has come “to reap the benefits of the government's efforts” and to show the people of Turkey that the authorities “are reaching their goal step by step.” This, according to the President of Turkey, is evidenced by the volume of national exports, which reached $ 225 billion.
Earlier, Erdogan announced emergency measures to combat the collapse of the national currency, which has fallen in price by half since January. At the same time, the rescue plan is not talking about abandoning the policy of low rates, which, according to international experts, is the reason for this situation.
The head of state called on citizens to buy the Turkish lira and keep their savings in it, and not in dollars. He promised that in a few months inflation will begin to decline, and the lira will rise. In December, the Istanbul Stock Exchange automatically halted trading twice due to the collapse of the lira.
