Deepti Gurdasani, Senior Lecturer in Epidemiology at Queen Mary University of London, spoke about the dangers of the “British” strain of coronavirus. She wrote about this on her Twitter account.

According to her, the new coronavirus mutation is more infectious for children and adolescents under 19, as it is more likely to provoke symptoms in this age group.

Gurdasani noted that due to the increased infectiousness among children and adolescents, this strain of coronavirus can quickly pass to adults, leading to an accelerated spread of SARS-CoV-2 and new deaths.

The specialist added that these findings are “very alarming” and called for action to be taken now.

A dangerous mutation of the coronavirus was first discovered in the UK in September. Prime Minister Boris Johnson said the new strain could be 70 percent more infectious. Currently, a new type of coronavirus has been detected in 18 countries, including China.

More than 50 countries have closed flights to Britain. In the country, due to the increase in the number of cases of coronavirus against the background of the emergence of a new strain, a critical situation has developed.
