The increase in the incidence of coronavirus infection in Russia has recently been associated with a change in the dominant strain of the disease. This was announced on Friday, July 16, by the deputy director for scientific work of the Central Research Institute of Epidemiology of Rospotrebnadzor, Alexander Gorelov.
According to a corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, at present, a tense epidemiological situation remains in Russia and around the world as a whole, which is due to the change in different genetic variants of coronavirus infection.
– As a rule, the change in the dominant strain is accompanied by an increase in the incidence rate, just now we are going through this stage. This incidence rate in our country will remain high for another month or a month and a half after reaching the maximum values for new infected per day. Then there will be a stabilization stage for about a month – one and a half, – said Alexander Gorelov in an interview with the TASS agency.
The epidemiologist noted that then a gradual decrease in the incidence should begin, but how confident the country will go to this stage depends on compliance with sanitary rules and vaccination by local residents.
As the website kp.ru wrote, the day before, the head of WHO said that the world is at the beginning of a new wave of the coronavirus pandemic. The more contagious strain of the delta coronavirus will soon dominate the world, he said.
