American artist and professor at the University of Illinois Ben Grosser has created a social network that has no likes and no follower counter.
Grosser's words are quoted by Fast Company. The social network Minus, created by Grosser, is an experiment to bring people back from the standards of social networks with their requirement to like and comment on everything to normal communication. “This is how human interaction worked before social media. We did not go to parties or leave them with a listing of the number of times we were seen. We had to listen to someone, think about what they said and respond if we thought it was necessary, ”said the creator of Minus.
Minus is an imitation of Facebook, but it differs in that it has no likes, number of subscribers and timestamps, there is no way to publish anything for the sake of empty, according to Grosser, recognition. In Minus, you can only truly communicate. As noted, it is possible to raise a post, to make it more popular, only in the course of discussions. Moreover, for all the time a user of this social network can leave only 100 posts.
As the creator of Minus said, social media is chasing growth and engagement, so there is room for trolling, politics, mutual abuse, and more. Since Minus can only post 100 posts at a time, this forces users to carefully consider how they want to use each of their posts. Once 100 posts have been exhausted, it will no longer be possible to publish anything in Minus.
At the same time, users can conduct unlimited correspondence, communicate freely and not think about how others might react to the message. You also don't have to worry about whether the post is published quickly enough. That is, Minus is an attempt to move away from constant growth in social networks to unconditional human communication.
