A West Bromwich Albion fan has been jailed for eight weeks on charges of racial abuse.
A fan of English second division West Bromwich Albion has been jailed for eight weeks for racially insulting West Brom's midfielder Romaine Sawyers online. That was decided by a court in Birmingham on Thursday. The 50-year-old had denigrated the Birmingham-born Sawyers, who plays for the national team of St. Kitts and Nevis, in a Facebook group.
In addition to the prison sentence, the convict must pay Sawyers 500 pounds (578.42 euros) and the legal costs in the same amount. In addition, West Brom placed him with a lifelong stadium ban.
