End-to-end message encryption won't hit Instagram and Facebook until 2022

On Facebook Messenger, end-to-end encryption has been around since 2016, but it's only available when you switch to Secret Conversation mode. Instagram doesn't support this option at all. It became clear that full end-to-end encryption will not appear on these social networks until 2022.

In 2019, Facebook said it would add end-to-end encryption to Messenger, WhatsApp, and Instagram. In the same year, the company announced that all three platforms will be migrated to a single infrastructure, which will enable cross-communication between all three services.

However, according to a recent Facebook post, end-to-end encryption will have to wait until 2022. The company explained that this work is time-consuming. This raises some questions. It can be assumed that Facebook is simply giving priority to other tasks for now than implementing full end-to-end encryption.
