Formula 1 veteran Kimi Raikkonen has now officially announced his departure. The Finn sends an emotional message.
The 41-year-old hangs up his racing suit after this Formula 1 season, the “Iceman” is retiring.
“That's it,” says Raikkönnen on Instagram: “This will be my last F1 season. The decision was not easy for me, but I made it last winter.”
“Even if the season is still running, it will be time for new things afterwards,” writes the 2007 Ferrari world champion.
“I want to thank my family, all my teams and especially the fans who have cheered me on throughout my career.”
“My chapter in Formula 1 may be over, but there is so much more in life that I will experience and enjoy,” said Kimi.
His compatriot Valtteri Bottas could take over his cockpit at Alfa Romeo if George Russell moves to Mercedes.
