Russian mixed style fighter (MMA) Alexander Emelianenko reacted to the idea of awarding his colleague Khabib Nurmagomedov the title of Hero of Russia. Reported by Vseprosport.
“He is great, he did a lot for mixed martial arts. Excellent services. But if you give the title of Hero of Russia, then first of all someone with the surname Emelianenko, ”the athlete noted. He also added that Nurmagomedov ended his career too early. According to the fighter, the Russian could still hold about ten battles.
On November 4, State Duma deputy Gadzhimurad Omarov made a proposal to award Nurmagomedov the title of Hero of Russia. Three-time Olympic champion, State Duma deputy Irina Rodnina spoke out against the initiative. She was joined by fighter Alexander Shlemenko, as well as former boxers Konstantin Tszyu and Nikolai Valuev.
On October 24, Nurmagomedov defeated American Justin Gage at the UFC tournament, holding the promoted lightweight belt. After the fight, he announced his retirement from the sport.
