Embassies of 12 countries have stopped their work in North Korea due to the strictest restrictions and shortages of goods caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. This was reported by the Russian diplomatic mission in Pyongyang on its Facebook page.

The Russian embassy said that now only nine foreign ambassadors and four chargé d'affaires remain in North Korea, and the staff of most diplomatic missions has been reduced as much as possible. According to the diplomatic mission, foreigners are forced to leave Pyongyang due to an acute shortage of goods and medicines, as well as the inability to receive medical assistance.

“Of course, we also have a hard time, there are a lot of problems, several families were forced to interrupt business trips for various reasons. But the working capacity of the team is fully preserved, we are performing and will continue to carry out all the functions assigned to us, ”the Russian diplomats assured.

On February 25, it became known that Russian diplomats with their families had to leave the DPRK in a very exotic way. The Russians were unable to leave the territory of the neighboring country in the usual way, since passenger traffic between Russia and the DPRK was interrupted due to the coronavirus pandemic. As a result, the Russians traveled to the border area by public transport, but they had to cross the Tumannaya River, which separates the countries, by a railway bridge on a non-self-propelled railcar.
