Exit polls show opposite results.
Parliamentary elections were held in Georgia On October 26, parliamentary elections were held. Opposition parties accuse the government of falsifying the results of the parliamentary elections and threaten protests.
After the polling stations closed, exit polls on opposition channels stated that the opposition parties had more votes in total than the pro-government Georgian Dream. Pro-government channels are reporting the opposite results.
99.3% of the votes have already been counted, the ruling pro-Russian party “Georgian Dream” has won.
Thus, according to the Central Election Commission, “Georgian Dream” gained 54.23% of the votes.
The opposition party “Coalition for Change” received 10.8%, “Unity-National Movement” – 10.1%, “Strong Georgia” – 8.75%; “Khakharia is for Georgia” – 7.75%.
The head of the Unity party, Tina Bokuchava, said that their political force does not recognize the results of the vote.
The leader of the Coalition for Change, Nika Gvaramia, also made sharp criticism, claiming that the ruling Georgian Dream party is trying to commit a “constitutional coup.” He announced protests demanding that the election results be verified and complaints considered.
The elections in Georgia are called historic, since the result may indicate either Georgia's future integration with the European Union or rapprochement with Moscow. For the first time, they are serving not under a majoritarian system, but under a proportional one, and this increases the opposition's chances of winning.
