Egyptologists have recovered a torn 2300-year-old scroll of the Book of the Dead

Researchers from New Zealand and the United States have managed to reunite a torn 2300 year old scroll of the Ancient Egyptian Book of the Dead. Writes about this “Rossiyskaya Gazeta”.

The torn parts of the scroll were connected by digitizing artifacts from the repositories of the Tisse Museum of Classical Antiquities at the University of Canterbury in New Zealand.

When a digitized copy of a fragment of the Book of the Dead was in the public domain, the second part of the artifact was found. The fragment was kept at the Getty Research Institute in Los Angeles.

According to the expert on Egyptian art Alison Griffith, there was a “gap” between the fragments, but in general the text after the reunification is perceived as meaningful. Scientists managed to read the spell and hymns inscribed on linen in hieroglyphs. Egyptologists also established the name of the person for whom the Book of the Dead was made – Petosiris, but the full text of the manuscript has not yet been restored. To do this, you need to find other parts of the artifact.

Earlier in Egypt, in the ancient necropolis in Saqqara, archaeologists discovered a total of 27 sarcophagi whose age, according to experts, is more than 2.5 thousand years.
