On the first day of 2022 of the year in Egypt fell snow and hail . Bad weather caused a lot of trouble for both locals and tourists. As noted, the snow was accompanied by torrential rain that lasted for several hours. The hail was the size of a pigeon's egg. Melting snow and a large amount of water on the streets of the city made traffic difficult.
The Egyptian weather bureau noted that the Red Sea province was under the influence of the atmospheric front, which caused heavy rainfall in most cities in the region.
In addition, due to bad weather, the authorities of several provinces in Egypt, in particular Assiut and the Red Sea, as well as the city of Sharm el-Sheikh, announced the closure of schools on January 2. People have been urged to stay away from trees, billboards and lampposts.
According to the latest reports, bad weather has killed three people. One of the victims, a man from Kafr al-Sheikh province, touched wet wires, as a result of which he received an electric shock. Another person died in an accident on a slippery road. The third deceased was pulled out from under the rubble of a two-story house that collapsed after rain in Alexandria.
As a rule, in December, favorable weather in Egypt, and this period is famous for the largest flow of tourists who want to celebrate the New Year warm and rest. In 2022, bad weather spoiled the plans of vacationers. Now it is windy and cool.
The last time snow was recorded in Egypt was in 2013.
Social media users share videos of the resort's snow-covered streets, palm trees and the beach. Journalist Osman Pashayev said that in one of the Sharm el-Sheikh hotels, the balconies of all rooms were flooded in an hour.
