Ecological disaster threatens the Black Sea

by alex

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan warned of the possible spread of mucus from algae that covered the shores near Istanbul, to the Black Sea, which threatens an ecological disaster. Writes about this “Nezavisimaya Gazeta”.

Algae, which locals call “sea snot”, forms on the surface of the water, killing fish and marine life due to lack of oxygen. Vessels barely pass through the water area covered by them, mucus also gets clogged into the motors of boats and fishermen refuse to go out to sea.

“I'm afraid if this spreads to the Black Sea, the problem will be gigantic. We need to take immediate action, ”the Turkish President said.

Experts note that mucus is present not only on the surface of the sea, but also at a depth of 25-30 meters, and its rapid spread is associated with insufficient wastewater treatment and harmful emissions.

Last year, State Duma deputy Natalya Poklonskaya noted in her Telegram channel that, in the absence of fresh water, the largest chemical plants continued to operate in Crimea. She urged to pay attention to ecology, so as not to feed the new Crimean Loch Ness monster in Sivash.
