The ECHR told Ukraine about human rights violations during the Maidan in 2014. RIA Novosti writes about this with reference to the court document.
During anti-government actions in the country, several articles of the European Convention on Human Rights were violated at once. Among other things, the authorities violated the prohibition of torture, the right to liberty and security, freedom of assembly and association, the right to life, and the right to respect for private and family life.
“All of the applicants encountered the police or non-state agents under police control. The court also found that the authorities deliberately used ill-treatment and that the state was responsible for the murder of one protester, ”the statement said. The ECHR considered that the Ukrainian authorities wanted to disrupt the initially peaceful protests, and for this they used violence and illegally detained people.
At the end of 2013 and the beginning of 2014, anti-government actions, called the Maidan (Euromaidan), swept across Ukraine, since the largest action was held on Independence Square (Independence Square) in Kiev. The result was a change of power in the country, as a result of the armed confrontation between the protesters and the security forces, 106 people died. Ex-President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych and several former ministers left the country.
