Eccentric millionaire dies after years of seclusion

by alex

The man who hit the jackpot lived most of his life alone.

The lottery winner who hit the £11 million jackpot, died after many years of living in almost complete isolation as a hermit.

The Daily Record writes about this.

In 1995, Paul Maddison, a former executive at a double glazing firm, won a whopping £22,590,829 with his partner. The men divided the winnings equally.

After his victory, Paul, who died aged 73 in Perth on November 28, lived an isolated life.

His death, recently confirmed by the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service, comes only months after the death of his wife of 62 years, Evelyn Maddison.

Originally from Hastings, East Sussex, Paul moved to Perth and lived a quieter life until his then-wife Ruth left him for another man a few months later.

Maddison then moved into the six-bedroom Lettertabor Lodge and hired future wife Evelyn McGillivary to do the cleaning.

The couple got married on a beach in Mauritius on Valentine's Day in 1997.

He and Evelyn later moved to Robgill Tower in Dumfries, where they lived a “reclusive” lifestyle and were reportedly never seen by their neighbors.

CCTV cameras, remote controlled gates and an intercom to screen visitors were installed by Paul immediately upon their arrival at the £650,000 site.

By 2008, the couple decided to downsize their home and put the castle on the market for £2.8 million. They returned to the Perth and Kinross areas together.

Evelyn died earlier this year after a serious illness. Paul survived her by only a few months.

Recall that a woman urinated right in the middle of the restaurant in front of shocked customers. She was caught on camera.
