Dutch police used force to disperse protesters against restrictive measures to combat coronavirus. Reported by the NL Times.
For example, the police used water cannons and batons in Amsterdam and Eindhoven, where demonstrators started throwing firecrackers at them. In Eindhoven, law enforcement officers used tear gas. Equestrian units also help to suppress unrest in the cities.
According to the Telegram channel “Pool N3”, protesters against the lockdown in Eindhoven turned over and burned a police car. The demonstrators also smashed the windows of the city station, pulled money from the ticket office and robbed several shops.
Earlier, the Netherlands extended until February 9 the almost complete lockdown introduced by the authorities in mid-December. Almost all shops, restaurants and cafes, museums and theaters, parks and gyms are closed in the country, all educational institutions work remotely. The day before, the curfew began to operate from 21:00 to 04:30, the police have already issued more than three thousand fines for violating it.
Enhanced restrictive measures have been introduced in many countries of the European Union and the Eurozone since the end of last year. They operate in Germany, France, Spain, Portugal, the Netherlands, Austria and will last at least until the end of January. Their introduction was the result of an increase in the number of cases in late autumn and early winter.
