De Ligt struggles with adductor problems
In the Netherlands, the next star defender has been hit after Virgil van Dijk's failure. Matthijs de Ligt limped off the training field on Saturday. The 21-year-old from Juventus Turin was suffering from adductor problems, as Bondscoach Frank de Boer explained. De Ligt is unlikely to be in the friendly against Georgia on Sunday. The Dutch will play their European Championship opening match against Ukraine on June 13th in Amsterdam. “Oranje” meets Austria on June 17th.
According to De Boer, one has to wait and see at De Ligt. The defender had problems the day before. De Boer also defended his decision to leave goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen at home due to his corona illness. The Valencia goalkeeper had criticized this. “It's an emotional reaction, I get it,” said the coach. De Boer once again stated that he could only use players who were one hundred percent fit at the European Championships.
