The founder of Telegram, Pavel Durov, assessed the impact of the global disruption of social networks on the messenger. He revealed the details on his personal blog.
Durov said that against the backdrop of a global outage in Facebook and other social networks on October 4, Telegram saw a record increase in the number of registrations and user activity. According to him, in one day the messenger had 70 million new users.
“I am proud that our team was able to cope with unprecedented growth, because Telegram continued to work flawlessly for the vast majority of our users,” said the founder of the messenger.
At the same time, he noted that on the eve of the residents of North and South America could face a low speed of the application, since most of the users from these continents began to register in Telegram at the same time.
The disruption of the social network Facebook on October 4 was the most serious and long-lasting since 2008. Problems also affected Instagram, WhatsApp and other popular platforms. The services were restored only six hours later.
