Duolingo Launches Math Learning App for Kids

by alex

Duolingo, a service for learning foreign languages, has announced the development of a new math platform aimed at younger students. This will be the first official attempt by the company to go beyond the language field of education. Now the new application is at the design stage, and the timing of the launch of the new product is still unknown.

According to TechCrunch, Duolingo has already started looking for a PhD in mathematics to help create the new app along with a “small multitasking team.”

The head of the company, Louis von Ahn, told the publication that the application is now in its early stages of development. More details will be announced at the end of August at Duocon, an annual free conference hosted by Duolingo.

The job description hints that the app will target younger students. Duolingo also expects professional candidates to have school experience, especially with younger students in grades 3-8.

Luis von Ahn previously revealed that he and Duolingo co-founder Severin Hacker contemplated making an app with a math bias before the partners ultimately decided to develop a language learning service.

Duolingo was founded in 2011 in the United States. The platform now offers 100 free courses in 39 languages and has approximately 40 million monthly active users. On July 28, Duolingo went public and raised $ 521 million with a capitalization of $ 3.7 billion.

In 2017, Louis von Ahn gave an interview to The Secret, in which he talked about how people learn languages and how Duolingo makes money from free lessons.
