The UK-Spain flight took off with an advantage due to a programming error. The program mistakenly considered female passengers as child passengers. This allowed the system to account for all women at 38 kilograms per person instead of 69 kilograms.
The error was classified as a “serious incident” by the British Aircraft Accident Investigation Department (AAIB). However, according to The Verge, it did not affect flight safety. The discrepancy between the expected and actual weight of the aircraft was 1244 kilograms. However, the thrust used by the pilot during takeoff was only “marginally less.”
The bug in the software appeared after the airline was forced to suspend operations for several months due to coronavirus restrictions. The error affected two more flights before it was fixed.
