An unknown aircraft from Belarus entered Lithuanian airspace, causing concern and prompt response from the NATO country's Ministry of Defense.

Dovile Shakalene

On Thursday, July 10, 2025, an aircraft resembling a homemade drone flew from Belarus to Lithuania. Lithuanian Defense Minister Dovilė Šakalienė said there was no indication yet that the object was intentionally aimed at the territory of a NATO member state, and stressed that it did not pose a threat to the population.

Delfi reports this.

“We do not see any signs that this device was consciously and intentionally directed at our territory. But we continue to clarify the circumstances to find out what kind of object it is, who developed it and what the final assessment of the circumstances of its penetration into our airspace will be,” Shakalene noted.

The minister also confirmed that the object was a Gerbera drone. She noted that there were no explosives on board the UAV, indicating that it was not intended for combat and posed no immediate threat to residents.

“As you can see, there was no explosive at this facility, it was not a combat facility. The assessment here is that it did not pose any threat to society,” the minister added.

Šakalienė praised the work of all services, including border guards and the Air Force, which responded promptly to the situation. She suggested that the incident was most likely an accident. However, the head of the Lithuanian Defense Ministry warned that with the approach of the Zapad exercises, the number of such provocations on the border could increase, and this “must be taken realistically.”

Let us recall that on July 10, a Russian UAV crashed on the territory of Lithuania, which is a NATO country. At about 11:30, the Lithuanian Air Force recorded an object approaching the country's border from the side of Belarus.
