Dragged by the hair on the ground: in the Kharkiv region, a man received two years for beating his sister

by alex

In the Kharkiv region, a 44-year-old man who systematically bullied, beat and threatened his sister with violence appeared before the court. He will spend the next two years behind bars.

The incident occurred in one of the villages of the Lozovsky district. The woman allowed her brother to live in her house because he had neither his own home nor a job.

The man did not want to ”tolerate” the constant reproaches of his sister due to lack of earnings and alcohol abuse, so he often mocked her. According to the investigation, he repeatedly beat the woman and threatened to kill her if she kicked him out of the house.

In September last year, during another scandal, a drunk man again began to beat his sister, and she ran out of the house without outerwear.

Her brother caught up with her, knocked her to the ground and continued to kick her. After that, he dragged the woman by the hair for several meters on the ground. That night she stayed overnight on the street because she was afraid to go into her house.

What the court decided

Criminal proceedings were opened under Article 126-1 (Domestic violence) The Criminal Code of Ukraine.

Despite the fact that the sanction of the article provides for punishment in the form of a fine or community service, the prosecutor insisted on the maximum punishment.

The court found the 44-year-old man guilty and sentenced him to two years in prison. Currently, the verdict has not entered into force, since the time of appeal has not passed.
