Swiss police are currently investigating suspicions of “foul play.”
The creator of the Sarco “suicide capsule” is building a new one so that he can continue to commit further assisted suicide.
The Daily Mail reports this.
Dr. Philipp Nitschke, nicknamed “Dr. Death,” has promised to make a new macabre device after Swiss police seized the original while investigating the death of an American woman.
A 64-year-old American woman died inside a capsule located in the forested area of Mörishausen, Switzerland, on September 23. She activated a device that filled the chamber with nitrogen gas, causing a fatal case of hypoxia at the push of a button from the inside.
However, police are now considering a criminal case after she was found with signs of strangulation.
Nitschke, the founder of euthanasia group Exit International, will use a Dutch 3D printer to make the new machine and intends to use it in a country outside Switzerland.
A former GP from Australia living in the Netherlands said he would have to start from scratch again: “We don't have any devices to use at the moment, so while I'm in the Netherlands – and I'll be here for the foreseeable future – we've started printing another one. Once we've printed that, I think we'll be able to plan for some form of use of the device, and we have a few strategies that we're looking at in detail, but that don't involve the uncertainty in Switzerland.”
The campaign worker who treated the American, Dr. Florian Willet, was arrested in the woods where the woman was found in the capsule. He is said to have been the only person with the mother of two when she died.
Nitschke decided to launch the Sarco capsule in Switzerland because it is the only country where people can get help to end their lives. Under Swiss law, doctors are not required to perform the procedure and can help a person end their life if they act “selflessly.”
Between Exit International and Dr. Willett's organization The Last Resort, about 120 people from around the world are hoping to use Sarco to end their lives life.
Recall that the last seven-word message that people hear before dying in the “suicide capsule” has been revealed. Once the process begins, it cannot be stopped.
