DPRK military in the Russian army: the US State Department assessed the likelihood of their successful involvement Sofia Khushvakhtova

More than 10,000 North Korean soldiers have arrived in eastern Russia to support the war against Ukraine. However, integration difficulties may affect the effectiveness of their deployment.

The United States believes that the success of North Korea's use of its troops in the war against Ukraine on Russia's side will depend on the level of their integration into the Russian army. This was reported by 24 Kanal, citing State Department spokesman Vedant Patel.

How the United States assessed the deployment of DPRK troops

Patel emphasized that the United States is deeply concerned that Russia has asked the DPRK to send soldiers to continue military operations. According to the spokesman, more than 10,000 North Korean troops have already arrived in eastern Russia, most of them in the Kursk region, where they are deployed to fight alongside Russian forces.

Russian instructors are training North Korean soldiers, including artillery training, drone control, basic infantry operations and mine clearance, skills that are critical to fighting in the war.

However, Russia's success on the battlefield using North Korean troops will largely depend on how well the Russians can integrate them into their own military. Some of the challenges they will have to overcome are interoperability, language barriers, command, control and communications, Patel said.

The United States continues to work closely with partners and other countries in the region to assess the implications of this situation.

On November 12, the US State Department announced the official participation of DPRK troops on the side of Russia against Ukraine.
