At least one person has died and dozens have gone missing following a landslide in a jade quarry in northern Myanmar. Reported by The Guardian.
According to the newspaper, the landslide came down in the area of the settlement of Phakan in Kachin state. As a result, the location of about a hundred people remains unknown at the moment. Emergency workers said that they took 25 victims to hospitals.
It is noted that some of the people were washed into the lake due to a natural phenomenon. Local sources for The Guardian suggest that the death toll will continue to rise. A rescue operation is being carried out at the scene. Landslides in jade mines are common in Myanmar.
In July, it was reported that heavy rainfall caused a landslide in the western state of Maharashtra in India, which killed 36 people. In some areas, the rivers overflowed their banks, the water level rose by 3.5 meters.
