Dozens killed in mine explosion in Iran

At least 31 people were killed and 16 were injured in a gas explosion in a coal mine in Iran.

This was reported on Sunday, September 22, by the Minister of Internal Affairs country's affairs chief Eskandar Momani, Reuters reports.

According to him, 17 miners are still missing and their fate remains unknown, as rescue teams are 400 meters from their supposed location. They were expected to reach them tomorrow after removing the rubble and excess gas.

Local media earlier reported that 51 people were killed in an accident caused by a methane explosion at a private mine operated by Madanjoo.

The mine had passed inspections last month and met all safety regulations, Labor Minister Ahmad Meidari told state media, denying any negligence and adding that such “sudden events also happen in the most advanced mines around the world.”

The prosecutor's office is investigating the incident countries.
