Down 84.5 percent: Vienna tourism slumped massively

by alex

Tourism in Vienna has to accept massive losses due to the Corona crisis. In October there was a minus of 84.5 percent in overnight stays.

Tourism is one of the areas hit hardest by the corona pandemic. City tourism in particular has massively decreased. So also in Vienna. In October, overnight stays fell by 84.5 percent compared to the same month last year. Only 242,000 overnight stays were counted – around half of them by Austrian guests, as Vienna Tourism announced in a broadcast on Friday.

From January to October 4.4 million overnight stays were counted, which corresponds to a decrease of 69.6%. Vienna is almost 70 percent below the previous year's figure for the same period.

Arrivals fell 85.3 percent to 105,000 in October. The average occupancy of the hotel beds fell to 11.8 percent (in October of the previous year it was 64.7), that of the rooms to around 15 percent (in October of the previous year it was around 84). In total, the Viennese hotel industry has taken in just under 209 million euros this year.
