British scientists: alcohol consumption doubles the risk of cancer

Cancer Research UK has named a drink that doubles the risk of cancer. Scientists have advised to abstain from alcohol consumption to reduce the possibility of its occurrence, Express reports.
It is clarified that alcohol can damage cells in the body, turning into a chemical known as acetaldehyde, which causes cell division, which in turn is a sign of cancer. It can increase levels of hormones such as estrogen and insulin, which are chemical messengers that promote cell division. In addition, alcohol alters cells in the mouth and throat, making them more likely to absorb harmful cancer-causing chemicals.
Experts noted that drinking more than 3.5 servings of alcohol a day can double or even triple the likelihood of developing several types of cancer. They also warned that people who use alcohol and tobacco are at even greater risk.
Earlier, fertility specialist at Delta Fertility Clinic Irina Menshikova stated that a genetic predisposition to any diseases is often a cause for concern, especially when it comes to oncology. Hereditary forms of oncology make up only seven percent of the total number of diagnosed ones, she said.
