Many countries are seeing an increase in the number of cases of respiratory illnesses caused by COVID-19 and other pathogens.
Director General of the World Organization Health (WHO) Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus recommends not to abandon the use of protective masks and vaccination against COVID-19 and influenza due to the increase in incidence in many countries.
This is stated in his post on the social platform X (formerly Twitter).
“Continue to use masks, ventilate [rooms], [keep social] distance to reduce the risk of infection. Also make sure you and your loved ones are vaccinated against COVID-19 and influenza,” Ghebreyesus wrote.
According to the WHO chief, “For weeks, many countries have seen an increase in the number of cases of respiratory illnesses caused by COVID-19 and other pathogens.” The WHO believes that this trend will continue for some time after the New Year holidays.
“Be sure to get tested and seek help if necessary, as treatment for COVID-19 can prevent severe illness and death,” Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus told those who are feeling unwell.
WHO calls on national authorities to provide access to reliable tests, treatments and vaccines. Especially those who are in the “risk zone”
Continued surveillance, sequencing and reporting are also recommended to track the evolution of the COVID-19 virus and clearly inform the public about the situation.
Let us remind you that the new strain of coronavirus has unexpected symptoms, in addition to the already familiar runny nose and sore throat.
