Dogs have been found to be helpful in reducing stress in students

American scientists in the course of the study concluded that dogs are able to reduce stress levels in students. Thanks to them, the students improved their executive functions during stressful moments.

The research results were published in the AERA Open edition. As part of the study, specialists led by Nancy R. Gee from Virginia Commonwealth University recruited about 309 students, a third of whom were exposed to high levels of stress. All volunteers were divided into several groups. Thus, the representatives of the first were offered to communicate with dogs as therapy, while the participants of the second were given the opportunity to communicate with a professional psychologist. At the same time, the third group spent the same amount of time with dogs and psychologists.

As a result, it turned out that students who spent time with dogs showed improvements in executive function. Moreover, the positive effect had a lasting effect – up to six weeks after class.
