Doctors warn of the dangers of superimposing coronavirus on influenza
The simultaneous infection with coronavirus and influenza is extremely dangerous, Finnish doctors told Ilta-Sanomat .
Hannah Nohinek, the head physician of the THL Institute of Welfare and Health, said it is difficult to say what role viruses play individually. International reports indicate that in the case of simultaneous infection with influenza and COVID-19, the risk of becoming ill in a severe form increases significantly, the doctor warned.
At the same time, infectious disease doctor Asko Järvinen believes that the cause of the more severe course of the disease is the delta strain of coronavirus infection. In his opinion, the mucous membrane is damaged due to the first infection, which literally “paves the way” for a more severe variant of infection with a secondary disease, but with other viruses.
Hanna Nohinek advised citizens to be vaccinated against coronavirus and flu at the same time.
Earlier, British scientists found that one in three people infected with coronavirus will experience at least one symptom of “prolonged COVID”. Their study showed that 37% of patients had at least one long-term symptom of COVID, which was diagnosed three to six months after infection.
