Experts from the Yale University School of Medicine conducted a study in which 1600 people with acute kidney damage associated with coronavirus took part. Scientific article published in JAMA Network magazine.
It turned out that about 24-57 percent of infections are accompanied by kidney problems. In intensive care units, the proportion is 61 to 78 percent. Doctors interviewed patients 21 days after discharge and learned that their original kidney function had not recovered.
In an interview with the newspaper Izvestia, urologist at the Medsi Clinical and Diagnostic Center Artur Tedeev said that at present there are very few studies on the effect of coronavirus on kidney tissue. However, the data available indicate a direct effect of the infection.
According to the expert, COVID-19 can cause acute renal failure, and most often it occurs in people with cardiovascular disease and diabetes.
