Doctors quit en masse in Sweden

Sineva Ribeiro, head of the health workers' association, said Sweden was facing a shortage of doctors amid massive layoffs due to overwork and exhaustion. Bloomberg writes about it.

According to her, the country will also soon face a shortage of not only hospital beds, but also staff to care for patients. So, now there are much fewer doctors working than in the spring, during the first wave of the coronavirus pandemic. At the same time, 99 percent of intensive care beds are already occupied in Stockholm.

A large number of cases of malaise are observed across the country, as well as signs of overwork and cases of COVID-19 infection among healthcare workers. “When you, so tired, are in the workplace, the risk of making a mistake increases. And mistakes can lead to the death of patients, ”said Ribeiro.

In November, Bloomberg reported that the financial authorities in Sweden, which refused to introduce quarantine due to the spread of the coronavirus, actually admitted that the country's banking system is short of money amid the pandemic. GDP growth forecasts are being revised downward not only in Sweden, but also in other countries around the world.

Sweden has become one of the few countries (and the only one in the European Union) that did not impose severe restrictions due to the spread of the coronavirus. The country's authorities stressed that they are striving to develop collective immunity for the population and do not want to allow damage to the economy.
