Doctor Rumyantsev: coronavirus survivors also need to be vaccinated
Alexander Rumyantsev, a member of the WHO International Committee on Vaccines against COVID-19, head of the Rogachev Center, said that vaccination is still the only effective way to protect against coronavirus.
During a live broadcast on his social networks, the academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences noted that there is no other way to protect oneself from coronavirus infection. This is especially important in light of the emergence of new strains of COVID-19, including the recently recorded version of the Delta Plus Indian strain, he said.
Rumyantsev stressed that those who received the vaccine can also get sick, but they will suffer the disease in a milder form and will not get complications.
Before vaccination, according to a specialist, it is necessary to consult a doctor about the choice of a vaccine and possible contraindications. At the same time, he explained that vaccination against COVID-19 is contraindicated only for allergy sufferers, for those who have intolerance to the components of the vaccine, and for pregnant women, and also not for persons under the age of 18.
Rumyantsev recalled that a previous illness or previous vaccination does not exclude re-infection. The antibodies provide protection against infection for at least six months, he said. After that, it is necessary to check the level of antibodies and, in the case of a low titer, to revaccinate.
It is known that Rumyantsev himself received the first component of the Sputnik V vaccine at the end of August last year and, as soon as the level of antibodies dropped, carried out a second vaccination.
“By being vaccinated, you protect not only yourself, but also your loved ones, especially older people from the coronavirus,” the academician emphasized.
Recall that earlier the head of the Rogachev Center called for a significant increase in the salaries of state medical workers, as well as equate the status of doctors with the status of military personnel, giving them similar benefits.
