Moscow. September 15th. INTERFAX.RU – After several years of restoration, the Egyptian authorities have opened the tomb of Pharaoh Djoser, the Associated Press reports.
However, Pharaoh Djoser himself, who lived more than 4500 years ago, was not buried there, but directly in the famous step pyramid, which was built by the architect Imhotep.
The southern tomb was built between 2667 and 2648. BC, presumably it had rather symbolic meanings. Or the internal organs of the pharaoh were kept in it.
The tomb is located mostly underground and consists of a whole labyrinth of corridors, richly decorated with hieroglyphs, the walls are decorated with colored stone. In the central mine there is a granite sarcophagus from the 3rd Dynasty.
The Djoser burial complex is located in Sakkara near Cairo, one of the key archaeological sites in Egypt. The step pyramid is one of the oldest surviving stone structures. It is believed that she was in her image erected the pyramids at Giza.
The restoration of the tomb has been carried out since 2006. Experts have strengthened the underground corridors, restored the rich decoration of the galleries, and installed lighting.
